It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: I performed prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in both residence and travel, so I performed with him in residence four rak‘ahs (obligatory) of Zuhr prayer and after it two rak‘ahs, and four rak‘ahs (obligatory) of Asr prayer and after it nothing, and three rak‘ahs (obligatory) of Maghrib prayer and after them two rak‘ahs, and four rak‘ahs (obligatory) of Isha prayer and after it two rak‘ahs. And I performed with him in travel two rak‘ahs (obligatory) of Zuhr prayer and after it two rak‘ahs, and (only) two rak‘ahs of Asr prayer and after them nothing, and three rak‘ahs (obligatory) of Maghrib prayer and after it two rak‘ahs (obligatory), and this prayer is the witr (odd) prayer of the day. There is no reduction in it in travel or residence, and two rak‘ahs (obligatory) of Isha prayer and after it two rak‘ahs were performed.
