Hadith 22

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ : أَتَى عَلَيْنَا زَمَانٌ وَمَا يَرَى أَحَدُنَا أَنَّهُ أَحَقُّ بِالدِّينَارِ وَالدِّرْهَمِ مِنْ أَخِيهِ الْمُسْلِمِ، وَنَحْنُ الْيَوْمَ الدِّينَارُ وَالدِّرْهَمُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْنَا مِنْ أَخِينَا الْمُسْلِمِ، وَذَلِكَ أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ : " إِذَا ضَنَّ النَّاسُ بِالدِّينَارِ وَالدِّرْهَمِ، وَاتَّبَعُوا أَذْنَابَ الْبَقَرِ، وَتَرَكُوا الْجِهَادَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ، وَتَبَايَعُوا بِالْغَبْنِ أنزل اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ذُلا فَلَمْ يَرْفَعْهُ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّى يُرَاجِعُوا دِينَهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, he said: There was a time upon us when everyone considered his Muslim brother more deserving of dinar and dirham than himself, and today dinar and dirham are more beloved to us than our Muslim brothers. And this is because I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: "When people become stingy with dinar and dirham, and follow the tails of cattle, and abandon striving in the way of Allah, and deceive in transactions, then Allah Almighty will impose disgrace upon them, and that disgrace will not be removed from them until they return to their religion."
