Hadith 283
نا عَوْفٌ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَ : مَرِضَ مَعْقِلُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ مَرَضَهُ الَّذِي تُوُفِّيَ فِيهِ، فَلَمَّا ثَقُلَ عَادَهُ ابْنُ زِيَادٍ فِي بَيْتِهِ، فَلَمَّا جَلَسَ إِلَيْهِ، قَالَ مَعْقِلٌ : إِنِّي مُحَدِّثُكَ حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنِ اسْتُرْعِيَ رَعِيَّةً فَلَمْ يُحِطْهَا بِنَصِيحَةٍ، فَقَدْ حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ رِيحَ الْجَنَّةِ، وَرِيحُهَا يُوجَدُ مِنْ مَسِيرَةِ مِائَةِ عَامٍ "، فَقَالَ ابْنُ زِيَادٍ : أَلا كُنْتَ حَدَّثْتَنِي هَذَا قَبْلَ الْيَوْمِ، قَالَ : وَالْيَوْمُ لَوْلا حَالَتِي الَّتِي أَنَا عَلَيْهَا، لَمْ أُحَدِّثْكَ .
Hasan narrates that Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) fell ill with the illness in which he passed away. When his condition became heavy, Ibn Ziyad came to his house to visit him. When he sat beside him, Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Indeed, I am going to narrate to you a hadith which I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is made a guardian over a people and does not surround them with goodwill, then surely Allah has made the fragrance of Paradise forbidden for him, and its fragrance is found at a distance of a hundred years’ journey." Ibn Ziyad said: Why did you not narrate this hadith before today? He said: Even today, if it were not for the condition I am in, I would not have narrated it to you.
