Hadith 274
أنا يُونُسُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنِي هِلالُ بْنُ خَبَّابٍ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عِكْرِمَةَ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ : ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ، قَالَ : بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ حَوْلَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، إِذْ ذَكَرَ الْفِتْنَةَ، أَوْ ذُكِرَتْ عِنْدَهُ، فَقَالَ : " إِذَا رَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ مَرَجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ، وَخَفَّتْ أَمَانَاتُهُمْ، كَانوا هَكَذَا، فَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَنَامِلِهِ "، فَقُمْتُ إِلَيْهِ، فَقُلْتُ : فَكَيْفَ أَفْعَلُ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ، جَعَلَنِي اللَّهُ فِدَاكَ ؟ قَالَ : " الْزَمْ بَيْتَكَ، وَأَمْلِكْ عَلَيْكَ لِسَانَكَ، وَخُذْ مَا تَعْرِفُ، وَذَرْ مَا تُنْكِرُ، وَعَلَيْكَ بِأَمْرِ خَاصَّةِ نَفْسِكَ، وَذَرْ عَنْكَ أَمْرَ الْعَامَّةِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: While we were around the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), suddenly he mentioned tribulations, or it was mentioned to him, so he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When you see that people's covenants have become corrupted and their trusts have become light, and they have become like this." He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) interlaced his fingers. So I stood up towards the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! What should I do at that time? May Allah ransom me for you. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Adhere to your house, restrain your tongue, take hold of what you recognize, and leave what you deny. Make your own self your special concern, and leave the general public to their own affairs."
