Hadith 267
أنا أنا شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ عُبَادٍ، قَالَ : قُلْنَا لِعَمَّارٍ : أَرَأَيْتَ قِتَالَكُمْ، أَرَأْيٌ رَأَيْتُمُوهُ، فَإِنَّ الرَّأْيَ يُخْطِئُ وَيُصِيبُ، أَوْ عَهْدٌ عَهِدَهُ إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ فَقَالَ : " مَا عَهِدَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَيْئًا لَمْ يَعْهَدْهُ إِلَى النَّاسِ كَافَّةً " .
Qais bin Abad narrated that we said to Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him): What is your opinion about your fighting— is it an opinion that you have formed, for indeed an opinion can be wrong or right, or is it a covenant that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made with you? He replied: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not make any such covenant with us that he did not make with all the other people.
