Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Jews brought two Jews (a man and a woman) to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: “Will you establish the prescribed punishment on both of them?” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Why did you not establish the prescribed punishment on both of them?” They said: “If we have control, we do it, and if it is lost, we do not.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Bring me your two greatest scholars,” so they brought the two sons of Surya. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to both of them: “Do you have more knowledge than those who come after you?” They said: “These (Jews) think so.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I adjure you by Allah who revealed the Torah to Musa (peace be upon him), do you not find this prescribed punishment in the Torah?” Both of them said: “We find in the Torah that indeed, when a man is in seclusion with a woman in a house and both are caught, then both are let go and there is punishment in it, and if it is found that he is lying with her, then he is let go and there is punishment in it, and if he fully penetrates her as the kohl stick enters the kohl container, then there is stoning in it.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the order regarding both of them and they were stoned. It is said that before this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had stoned Ma'iz bin Malik Al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him), who had testified against himself four times, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the order regarding him and he was stoned. Shu’bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) showed me the place where he was stoned.
