Hadith 154
عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمُتَوَكِّلِ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ : أُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِنَشْوَانَ، فَقَالَ : " إِنِّي لَمْ أَشْرَبْ خَمْرًا، إِنَّمَا شَرِبْتُ زَبِيبًا وَتَمْرًا فِي دُبَّاءٍ، فَنُهِزَ بِالأَيْدِي، وَخُفِقَ بِالنِّعَالِ، وَنُهِيَ عَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ، وَعَنِ الزَّبِيبِ وَالتَّمْرِ أَنْ يُخْلَطَا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that a drunkard was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said, "I did not drink wine; I only drank (a beverage made from) raisins and dates in a gourd vessel." So he was reprimanded with hands and shoes, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade (the use of) gourd vessels and mixing raisins and dates (for drinking).
