Hadith 142
عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " رَأَيْتُ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِي رِجَالا تُقْرَضُ شِفَاهُهُمْ بِمَقَارِيضَ مِنْ نَارٍ، فَقُلْتُ : مَنْ هَؤُلاءِ يَا جِبْرِيلُ ؟ فَقَالَ : خُطَبَاءُ مِنْ أُمَّتِكَ الَّذِينَ يَأْمُرُونَ النَّاسَ بِالْبِرِّ وَيَنْسَوْنَ أَنْفُسَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَتْلُونَ الْكِتَابَ أَفَلا يَعْقِلُونَ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the night I was taken on the Night Journey, I saw some people whose lips were being cut with scissors of fire. I asked, 'O Jibreel (peace be upon him)! Who are these?' He replied: 'They are the preachers of your ummah who used to enjoin righteousness upon the people but forgot their own selves, and they used to recite the Book (as well). Do they not then understand?'"
