Hadith 85
عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ، يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ : يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، خُذُوا عَلَى أَيْدِي سُفَهَائِكُمْ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ قَوْمًا رَكِبُوا الْبَحْرَ فِي سَفِينَةٍ فَاقْتَسَمُوهَا، فَأَصَابَ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ مَكَانًا، فَأَخَذَ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمُ الْفَأْسَ فَبَقَرَ مَكَانَهُ، فَقَالُوا : مَا يَصْنَعُ ؟ قَالَ هُوَ : إِنِّي أَصْنَعُ فِيهِ مَا شِئْتُ، فَإِنْ أَخَذُوا عَلَى يَدَيْهِ نَجَوْا وَنَجَا، وَإِنْ تَرَكُوهُ غَرِقَ وَغَرِقُوا، فَخُذُوا عَلَى أَيْدِي سُفَهَائِكُمْ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَهْلِكُوا " .
Sha’bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with both of them) saying from the pulpit: “Restrain your fools, for indeed I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Some people boarded a ship at sea, they divided their portions among themselves, and each man reached his allotted place. One of them took an axe and began to make a hole in his place. They said to him: What are you doing? He replied: This is my place, I will do in it as I wish. If they restrain his hands, they will be saved and he too will be saved, but if they leave him, he will drown and they too will drown. Therefore, restrain your fools before you are destroyed.”
