Hadith 49
عَنِ الْمُبَارَكِ بْنِ فَضَالَةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، حَدَّثَنِي أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَخْطُبُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ، وَيُسْنِدُ ظَهْرَهُ إِلَى خَشَبَةٍ، فَلَمَّا كَثُرَ النَّاسُ، قَالَ : " ابْنُوا لِي مِنْبَرًا "، فَبَنَوْا لَهُ مِنْبَرًا، إِنَّمَا كَانَ عُسْرٌ، فَتَحَوَّلَ مِنَ الْخَشَبَةِ إِلَى الْمِنْبَرِ، قَالَ : فَحَنَّتْ وَاللَّهِ الْخَشَبَةُ حَنِينَ الْوَالِدِ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ : وَأَنَا وَاللَّهِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ أَسْمَعُ ذَلِكَ، قَالَ : فَوَاللَّهِ مَا زَالَتْ تَحِنُّ حَتَّى نَزَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ الْمِنْبَرِ، فَمَشَى إِلَيْهَا فَاحْتَضَنَهَا فَسَكَتَتْ فِيهَا الْحَسْرَةُ، وَقَالَ : " يَا مَعْشَرَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ، الْخَشَبُ يَحِنُّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَفَلَيْسَ الَّذِينَ يَرْجُونَ لِقَاءَهُ أَحَقَّ أَنْ يَشْتَاقُوا إِلَيْهِ ؟ ! " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver the sermon on Friday while leaning against a wooden trunk with his back. When the people increased in number, he (peace be upon him) said: “Make a pulpit for me.” So the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) made a pulpit for him (peace be upon him). It was merely a time of hardship, so he (peace be upon him) moved from the wood to the pulpit. He said: “Then it (the trunk) began to weep. By Allah! That wood wept like a father weeps.” Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: And by Allah! I was in the mosque, hearing its (weeping). He said: By Allah! It continued to weep until the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) descended from the pulpit, went towards it, embraced it to his chest, and then it became silent, and there was longing in it. (Hasan, may Allah have mercy on him) said: O assembly of Muslims! The wooden trunk is weeping for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so are not those who hope to meet him (peace be upon him) more deserving of longing towards him?
