Dhamdham bin Hawas said: I entered the mosque of Madinah when an elderly man called out to me and said: O Yamami! O Yamami! Come here, and I did not recognize him. He said: Never say to any man: Allah will never forgive you, nor will He admit you to Paradise. I said: Who are you, may Allah have mercy on you? He said: Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him). I said: These words, when one of us is angry, he says to some of his family, or his wife, or his servant. He said: Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Indeed, among the Children of Israel there were two men who loved each other. One of them strove in worship, and the other— as if the Prophet (peace be upon him) was saying— was a sinner. So the worshipper would say: Refrain from the state you are in, stop! He would say: Leave me and my Lord, until one day he found him involved in a sin, so he disliked it and said: Stop! He said: Leave me and my Lord, have you been sent as a guardian over me? He said: By Allah! Allah will never forgive you, nor will He ever admit you to Paradise! He (the Prophet) said: Allah Almighty sent an angel to both of them, who took their souls, and they both stood before Allah. Allah said to the sinner: Enter Paradise by My mercy, and to the other He said: Do you have power to withhold My mercy from My servant? He said: No, O Lord! He said: Take him to the Fire.” Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Him in Whose hand is my soul! Indeed, he uttered a word that destroyed his world and his Hereafter.
