Qais bin Bishr Taghlabi said that my father was a companion of Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) in Damascus, and there was a man among the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Damascus, who was called Ibn Hanzalah (may Allah have mercy on him). He was inclined to solitude and would rarely sit in gatherings with people. He would only be engaged in prayer, and when he finished the prayer, his only occupation was to say Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, and Allahu Akbar, until he reached his family. One day he passed by us while we were with Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him). He greeted us with salam, so Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Tell us something that will benefit us and not harm you. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: "Indeed, you are going to your brothers, so keep your clothes tidy and keep your mounts tidy, so that you become prominent among the people. Indeed, Allah does not like indecency or deliberate obscenity."
