Hadith 27
عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ : " رَأَيْتُ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِي رِجَالا تُقْرَضُ شِفَاهُهُمْ بِمَقَارِيضَ مِنْ نَارٍ، فَقُلْتُ : مَنْ هَؤُلاءِ يَا جِبْرِيلُ ؟ فَقَالَ : خُطَبَاءُ أُمَّتِكَ الَّذِينَ يَأْمُرونَ النَّاسَ بِالْبِرِّ، وَيَنْسَوْنَ أَنْفُسَهُمْ، وَهُمْ يَتْلُونَ الْكِتَابَ أَفَلا يَعْقِلُونَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "On the night I was taken on the Night Journey, I saw some men whose lips were being cut with scissors. I asked: O Jibreel (peace be upon him)! Who are these? He said: They are the preachers of your ummah who enjoin good upon the people but forget their own selves, and they recite the Book. Do they then not understand?"
