Hadith 88

حَدَّثَنَا جَدِّي، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَبَّانُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللّٰهِ، عَنْ مُوْسَی بْنِ عُقْبَةَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَقَّاصٍ، أَنَّ بِلَالَ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ الْمُزَنِيُّ قَالَ لَهُ إِنِّيْ رَأَیْتُكَ تَدْخُلُ عَلَی هٰؤُلَاءِ الْأُمَرَاءِ وَتَغْشَاهُمْ فَانْظُرْ مَاذَا تُحَاضِرُهُمْ بِهِ فَإِنِّيْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُوْلَ اللّٰهِ صلَّی اللهُ عَلَیْهِ وَسَلَّمَ یَقُوْلُ: ((إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَیَتَکَلَّمُ بِالْکَلِمَةِ مِنَ الْخَیْرِ مَا یَعْلَمُ مَبْلَغَهَا یَکْتُبُ اللّٰهُ لَهُ بِهَا رِضْوَانَهُ إِلَی یَوْمٍ یَلْقَاهُ وَاِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَیَتَکَلَّمُ بِالْکَلِمَةِ مِنَ الشَّرِّ مَا یَعْلَمُ مَبْلَغَهَا یَکْتُبُ اللّٰهُ بِهَا عَلَیْهِ سَخْطَهُ إِلَی یَوْمٍ یَلْقَاهُ((فَکَانَ عَلْقَمَةُ یَقُوْلُ رُبَّ حَدِیْثٍ قَدْ حَالَ بَیْنِيْ وَبَیْنَهُ مَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْ بِلَالٍ
Alqamah bin Waqas narrates that indeed Sayyiduna Bilal bin Harith Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Certainly, I see you entering upon these rulers and covering them, so see with what you present yourself before them. Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Surely a man utters a word of goodness, the end of which he does not realize, and because of it Allah writes for him His pleasure until the day he meets Him. And surely a man utters an evil word, the end of which he does not realize, and because of it Allah writes for him His displeasure until the day he meets Him." Alqamah used to say that many a hadith which I heard from Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) became a barrier between me and him.
