Hadith 87

حَدَّثَنَا جَدِّيْ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَبَّانُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللّٰهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمٰنِ بْنِ زِیَادِ بْنِ أَنْعُمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِالرَّحْمٰنِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللّٰهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ: دَخَلَ رَسُوْلُ اللّٰهِ صلَّی اللهُ عَلَیْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَرَأَي مَجْلِسَیْنِ أَحَدَهُمَا یَدْعُوْنَ اللّٰهَ وَیَرْغَبُوْنَ إِلَیْهِ واَلْآخَرَ یَتَعَلَّمُوْنَ الْفِقْهَ فَقَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللّٰهِ صلَّی اللهُ عَلَیْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ((کِلَا الْمَجْلِسَیْنِ عَلَی خَیْرٍ وَأَحَدُهُمَا أَفْضَلُ مِنْ صَاحِبِهِ أَمَّا هٰؤُلَاءِ فَیَدْعُوْنَ اللّٰهَ وَیَرْغَبُوْنَ إِلَیْهِ فَإِنْ شَاءَ أَعْطَاهُمْ وَإِنْ شَاءَ مَنَعَهُمْ وَأَمَّا هٰؤُلَاءِ فَیَتَعَلِّمُوْنَ وَیُعَلِّمُوْنَ الْجَاهِلَ، وَإِنَّمَا بُعِثْتُ مُعَلِّمًا هٰؤُلَاءِ أَفْضَلُ))ثُمَّ جَلَسَ مَعَهُمْ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the mosque and saw two gatherings. One group was supplicating to Allah and turning towards Him with desire, and the other was learning and understanding the religion. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Both gatherings are upon goodness, but one is more virtuous than the other. As for these people, they are supplicating to Allah and turning towards Him; if He wills, He will grant them, and if He wills, He will not grant them. But these people are learning and teaching the ignorant, and I have only been sent as a teacher, so these people are superior.” Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) sat with them.
