Hadith 79

عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ : " رُبَّ صَائِمٍ لَيْسَ لَهُ مِنْ صِيَامِهِ إِلا الْجُوعُ، وَرُبَّ قَائِمٍ لَيْسَ لَهُ مِنْ قِيَامِهِ إِلا السَّهَرُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There are many who fast but gain nothing from their fast except hunger, and there are many who stand (in prayer at night) but gain nothing from their standing except wakefulness.”
