عَنْ لَيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ حَدَّثَهُ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ مَمْلَكٍ،،أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ قِرَاءَةِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَصَلاتِهِ، فَقَالَتْ : " مَا لَكُمْ وَصَلاتَهُ ؟ كَانَ يُصَلِّي، ثُمَّ يَنَامُ قَدْرَ مَا يُصَلِّي، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي قَدْرَ مَا نَامَ، ثُمَّ يَنَامُ قَدْرَ مَا يُصَلِّي، حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ، وَنَعَتَتْ لَهُ قِرَاءَتَهُ، فَإِذَا هِيَ تَنْعَتُ قِرَاءَتَهُ مُفَسَّرَةً حَرْفًا حَرْفًا " .
Ya’la bin Mamlak (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that indeed he asked Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) about the recitation and prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: What is your connection with the prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray, then sleep for as long as he had prayed, then pray for as long as he had slept, then sleep for as long as he had prayed. Thus, this was his (peace and blessings be upon him) prayer until morning came. And she described his (peace and blessings be upon him) recitation, suddenly she was describing his recitation letter by letter, making each letter clear and distinct.
