Sayyiduna Abu Amrah Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that during a military expedition we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the people were afflicted with hunger. The people sought permission from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to slaughter some of the riding animals and said, “Surely, through them Allah will cause us to reach (our destination).” When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to grant them permission, he said, “O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What will be our condition when we meet the people naked, hungry, and on foot? But O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! If you deem it appropriate, call the people with their remaining provisions, gather them, then supplicate to Allah for blessing in it. Surely, Allah will cause us to reach (our destination) due to your supplication, or he said: Soon, due to your supplication, blessing will be placed for us?” Thus, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called the people with their remaining provisions. The people began to bring a handful of grain and more than that, and the one who brought the most brought a sa’ (about 2100 grams) of dates. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered them, then stood up and supplicated for whatever Allah willed him to ask. Then he called the army with their vessels and commanded them to fill them up by scooping (from the provisions). There was not a single vessel in the army except that it was filled, and the provisions were still left. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled until his molar teeth became visible. He said, “I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that indeed I am the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Whoever among the believing servants meets Allah with these two (testimonies), they will become a barrier for him against the Fire on the Day of Resurrection.”
