Haroon bin Saad narrated that Haneef bin Sajq encountered the army of Ibn Diljah from the people of Shaam at the place of Rabdhah, fought them, and defeated them. Then Haneef entered Madinah and met Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said: O Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both)! What is it that keeps you behind from Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both)? Are you not his brother from old times? Surely, people are staying behind from him because of your delay. So he said: Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him), and indeed he put his hand in his mouth and said, Do you know what it means to put the hand in the mouth? He said: No. He said: Have you not seen a woman who breastfeeds her child, until when he is satisfied or full, he becomes uninterested and puts his hand in his mouth, so his mother says: He has put his hand in his mouth. And indeed, by Allah! I will surely become like a heavy-weighted camel. And do you know what a heavy-weighted camel is? He said: No. He said: It is the camel that separates itself and sits down and always remains in its sitting place until it is slaughtered there. So I am like that camel. I will confine myself to my house until there comes to me the one who slaughters me in it, or the people gather upon one man. If they gather upon a righteous group among themselves (then it is correct), and if they become divided and scattered, then I will not gather with them in their division, nor will I act (give allegiance) to two men, after I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Whoever is entrusted by Allah with the responsibility of any subjects, on the Day of Resurrection he will surely be questioned about them: did he establish Allah’s command among them or did he neglect it, until a man will be questioned about his household: did he establish Allah’s command among them or did he neglect it.”
