Hadith 269

نا مِسْعَرٌ، عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ مَوْلَى ثَعْلَبَةَ، عَنْ قُطْبَةَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ : قَالَ الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ : مَنْ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؟ فَقَالَ لَهُ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَرْقَمَ : أَمَا إِنَّكَ قَدْ عَلِمْتَ : " أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَنْهَى عَنْ شَتْمِ الْهَلْكَى "، فَلِمَ تَسُبُّ عَلِيًّا وَقَدْ مَاتَ .
Qutbah bin Malik said that Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Who is Ali bin Abi Talib? So Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Listen! Surely you know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has forbidden speaking ill of the deceased, so why are you speaking ill of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), when he has passed away?
