أنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي رُزَيْقٌ مَوْلَى بَنِي فَزَارَةَ، عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ قَرَظَةَ، وَكَانَ ابْنَ عَمِّ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَوْفَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ : " خِيَارُ أَئِمَّتِكُمْ مَنْ تُحِبُّونَهُمْ وَيُحِبُّونَكُمْ، وَتُصَلُّونَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَيُصَلُّونَ عَلَيْكُمْ، وَشِرَارُ أَئِمَّتِكُمُ الَّذِينَ تُبْغِضُونَهُمْ، وَيُبْغِضُونَكُمْ، وَتَلْعَنُونَهُمْ، وَيَلْعَنُونَكُمْ "، قَالَ : قُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَفَلا نُنَابِذُهُمْ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ ؟ قَالَ : " لا، مَا أَقَامُوا الصَّلاةَ، أَلا وَمَنْ وُلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ وَالٍ فَرَآهُ يَأْتِي شَيْئًا مِنْ مَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ، فَلْيَكْرَهْ مَا يَأْتِي مِنْ مَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ، وَلا يَنْزِعَنَّ يَدًا مِنْ طَاعَةٍ " .
Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The best of your rulers are those whom you love and they love you, and you pray for them and they pray for you. And the worst of your rulers are those whom you hate and they hate you, you curse them and they curse you." He said: We said, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Should we not declare war against them at that time? He said: "No, as long as they establish the prayer. But if a person has a ruler appointed over him and he sees him committing something of disobedience to Allah, then he should dislike that act of disobedience to Allah which he commits, but he should not withdraw his hand from obedience."
