عَنْ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، نا السَّائِبُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، قَالَ : " خَرَجْتُ مَعَ سَعْدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ إِلَى مَكَّةَ، فَمَا سَمِعْتُهُ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِحَدِيثٍ حَتَّى رَجَعْنَا، وَقَالَ حَمَّادٌ : يُعَظَّمُ الْحَدِيثُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَذَا وَكَذَا وَنَحنُ نُضَيِّعُ " .
Sa’ib bin Yazid (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I set out from Madinah to Makkah with Sa’d bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), and I did not hear him narrate even a single hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), until we returned. Hammad said that (he did so) out of reverence and the gravity of narrating from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and our condition is such that we narrate such and such (hadiths) between ourselves and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and we waste them.
