أنا أنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، قَالَ : أَرَادَ قَرَظَةُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ الْعِرَاقَ فِي أُنَاسٍ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ الأَشْهَلِ، فَخَرَجَ مَعَهُمْ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ، فَدَعَا بِمَاءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ، فَقَالَ : هَلْ تَدْرُونَ لِمَ خَرَجْتُ مَعَكُمْ ؟ قَالُوا : وُدًّا لَنَا وَحَقًّا، قَالَ : لَكُمْ حَقًّا وَلَكِنِّي جِئْتُ فِي كَلِمَةٍ : " أَقِلُّوا الْحَدِيثَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا شَرِيكُكُمْ فِيهِ "، قَالَ : فَمَا كُنْتُ أُحَدِّثُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَ قَوْلِ عُمَرَ .
Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Qarza intended to go to Iraq with some people from Banu Abd al-Ashhal. Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) also set out with them, requested water, performed ablution, and said: "Do you know why I have come out with you?" They said: "Because of your love for us and our right." He said: "Indeed, you have a right, but I have come to say one thing: narrate few ahadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I am your partner in this (adherence)." (Sha'bi) said: "After this statement of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), I would not narrate hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
