Hadith 233

Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that Utbah bin Abi Waqqas said to his brother Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him)—and Utbah was a disbeliever and Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) was a Muslim—“Indeed, I urge you that the son of Zam’ah’s slave woman is my son, and Zam’ah was an individual from Banu Amir bin Lu’ayy. When you meet the son of Zam’ah’s slave woman, take him.” Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When the day of the conquest (of Makkah) came, Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) met the son of Zam’ah’s slave woman and said, “My nephew,” and embraced him. Abd bin Zam’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Rather, he is my brother; he was born on my father’s bed, from his slave woman.” So both of them took the dispute to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and Abd bin Zam’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Rather, he is your brother; he was born on my father’s bed, from his slave woman.” Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked and saw a resemblance to Utbah, which people had not clearly noticed before. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “He is for you, O Abd bin Zam’ah! The child is for the (owner of the) bed, and O Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her)! Observe veil from him.” So she did not see him until she passed away.
