Hadith 212

أنا أَبُو حَيَّانَ التَّيْمِيُّ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ، قَالَ : سَأَلَتْ أُمِّي أَبِي بَعْضَ الْمَوْهِبَةِ لِي مِنْ مَالِهِ، فَالْتَوَى بِهَا سَنَةً، ثُمَّ بَدَا لَهُ فَوَهَبَهَا لِي، وَأَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : لا أَرْضَى حَتَّى تُشْهِدَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى مَا وَهَبْتَ لابْنِي، فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِي وَأَنَا يَومَئذٍ غُلامٌ، فَأَتَى بِيَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ، إِنَّ أُمَّ هَذَا بِنْتَ رَوَاحَةَ قَاتَلَتْنِي مُنْذُ سَنَةٍ عَلَى بَعْضِ الْمَوْهِبَةِ لابْنِي هَذَا، وَقَدْ بَدَا لِي فَوَهَبْتُهَا لَهُ، وَقَدْ أَعْجَبَهَا أَنْ تُشْهِدَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، فَقَالَ : " يَا بَشِيرُ، أَلَكَ وَلَدٌ سِوَى هَذَا ؟ "، قَالَ : نَعَمْ، فَأُرَاهُ قَالَ : " لا، لا تُشْهِدْنِي عَلَى هَذَا " .
Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that my mother asked my father for a gift for me from his wealth. He delayed it for a year, then it appeared to him to give me the gift, and indeed she (my mother) said, “I will not be pleased until you make the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) a witness to the gift you give my son.” So he took my hand, and I was a child in those days, and brought me to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: “O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Indeed, his mother, the daughter of Rawaha, has been insisting for a year that I give this son of mine a gift, and now it has appeared to me to give him the gift. O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! She feels that you should be made a witness.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “O Bashir! Do you have any children other than him?” He said: Yes. I think the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Do not make me a witness to this.”
