Hadith 208

عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ وَهُوَ بِمَكَّةَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ حَرَّمَ بَيْعَ الْخَمْرِ وَالْمَيْتَةِ وَلَحْمَ الْخِنْزِيرِ "، فَقِيلَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَرَأَيْتَ شُحُومَ الْمَيْتَةِ، فَإِنَّهُ يُدْهَنُ بِهَا السُّفُنُ، وَيُدْهَنُ بِهَا الْجُلُودُ، وَيَسْتَصْبِحُ بِهَا النَّاسُ ؟ فَقَالَ : " أَلا هِيَ حَرَامٌ، قَاتَلَ اللَّهُ الْيَهُودَ، إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمَّا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْهِمُ الشُّحُومَ جَمَلُوهَا، ثُمَّ بَاعُوهَا وَأَكَلُوا أَثْمَانَهَا " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the year of conquest, and he was in Makkah, saying: "Indeed, Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) have forbidden the trade of intoxicants, carrion, and the flesh of swine." It was asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What is your opinion about the fat of carrion? For indeed, it is used to oil water skins, it is used to oil leather, and people use it to light lamps." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, it is forbidden." May Allah destroy the Jews, for when Allah made fat forbidden for them, they melted it, then sold it and consumed its price."
