Hadith 18

عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبِي، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ لَيَقُولُ الْكَلِمَةَ لا يَقُولُهَا إِلا لِيُضْحِكَ النَّاسَ، يَهْوِي بِهَا أَبْعَدَ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ، وَإِنَّهُ لَيَزِلُّ عَنْ لِسَانِهِ أَشَدَّ مِمَّا يَزِلُّ عَنْ قَدَمَيْهِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, a servant utters a word, he speaks it only to make people laugh, but because of it he falls farther (into Hell) than the distance between the heaven and the earth, and indeed, he slips with his tongue more severely than he slips with his feet."
