عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَقِيلِ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ السُّلَمِيِّ، عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ هَيْضَمٍ، عَنِ الأَشْعَثِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، قَالَ : قَدِمْنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي نَفَرٍ مِنْ كِنْدَةَ لا يَرَوْنِي إِلا أَفْضَلَهُمْ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنَّا نَزْعُمُ أَنَّكُمْ مِنَّا ؟ قَالَ : " نَحنُ بَنُو النَّضْرِ بْنِ كِنَانَةَ لا نَقْفُو أُمَّنَا وَلا نَنْتَفِي مِنْ أَبِينَا "، فَقَالَ الأَشْعَثُ : وَاللَّهِ لا أَسْمَعُ بِرَجُلٍ نَفَى قُرَيْشًا مِنَ النَّضْرِ إِلا جَلَدْتُهُ الْحَدَّ .
Ash'ath bin Qais said: We came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) among some people of Kindah, and they considered me to be their most virtuous man. I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Indeed, we think that you (peace be upon him) are from among us? He (peace be upon him) said: "We are Banu Nadir bin Kinana; we neither slander our mother with a false accusation nor do we deny our father." Ash'ath said: By Allah! Whenever I heard of any man who denied the lineage of any man of Quraysh from Nadr bin Kinana, I would certainly administer the legal punishment of lashes to him.
