عَنْ شُعْبَةَ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " أُتِيَ بِرَجُلٍ قَدْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ فَجَلَدَهُ بِجَرِيدَتَيْنِ نَحْوًا مِنْ أَرْبَعِينَ "، قَالَ : وَفَعَلَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ عُمَرُ، اسْتَشَارَ النَّاسَ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ : أَخَفُّ الْحُدُودِ ثَمَانُونَ، فَأَمَرَ بِهِ عُمَرُ .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that indeed a man was brought to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who had drunk wine. The Prophet (peace be upon him) struck him with two sticks, about forty times. He said, and this is what Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) did. Then when Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was (the caliph), he consulted the people. Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the lightest prescribed punishment among the hudud is eighty lashes, so Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the order regarding this.
