Hadith 104

عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي سُلَيْمُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي الْمِقْدَادُ صَاحِبُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ : " إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ أُدْنِيَتِ الشَّمْسُ مِنَ الْعِبَادِ، حَتَّى تَكُونَ قَيْدَ مِيلٍ أَوِ اثْنَيْنِ "، قَالَ سُلَيْمٌ : لا أَدْرِي أَيُّ الْمِيلَيْنِ يَعْنِي : أَمَسَافَةُ الأَرْضِ، أَوِ الْمِيلُ الَّذِي تُكْتَحَلُ بِهِ الْعَيْنُ، قَالَ : " فَتَصْهَرُهُمُ الشَّمْسُ، فَيَكُونُونَ فِي الْعَرَقِ بِقَدْرِ أَعْمَالِهِمْ، فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَأْخُذُهُ الْعَرَقُ إِلَى عَقِبَيْهِ، وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَأْخُذُهُ إِلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ، وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَأْخُذُهُ إِلَى حَقْوَيْهِ، وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يُلْجِمُهُ إِلْجَامًا "، قَالَ : فَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَهُوَ يُشِيرُ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى فِيهِ، يَقُولُ : " يُلْجِمُهُ إِلْجَامًا " .
It is narrated from the companion of the Messenger of Allah, Sayyiduna Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him), that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When the Day of Resurrection comes, the sun will be brought near to the servants, until it will be as close as one or two miles." Salim (the narrator) said: I do not know which of the two miles is meant, whether it is the distance of the earth or the kohl stick with which kohl is applied to the eye. He (the Prophet) said: "The sun will be melting them, and they will be in sweat according to their deeds. Among them will be one whom the sweat will seize up to his ankles, and among them will be one whom it will seize up to his knees, and among them will be one whom it will seize up to his waist, and among them will be one who will be bridled by it." He said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and he was pointing with his hand towards his mouth and saying: "He will be bridled by it."
