Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that while we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: “A man from among the people of Paradise will come to you now.” He said that a man from the Ansar came, water from ablution dripping from his beard, holding his shoes in his left hand. When the next day came, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “A man from among the people of Paradise will come to you now.” The same man came, and he was in the same state as before. When the next day came, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “A man from among the people of Paradise will come to you now.” The same man came, and he was in the same state as before. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and left, Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) followed him and said to him: I had a dispute with my father and swore that I would not stay with him for three nights. If you can host me for the sake of fulfilling my oath, then please do so. He said: All right. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: I stayed with that man for three nights. He did not stand for prayer at night, but whenever he turned on his bed, he would remember Allah and say «اللہ أکبر», until he got up for the Fajr prayer and performed a complete ablution. Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Moreover, I only heard him speak good words. So when three nights had passed, I was close to considering his deeds insignificant. I said: O servant of Allah! The truth is that there was no anger or resentment between me and my father, but I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say three times in three gatherings: “A man from among the people of Paradise will come to you now.” And each time, it was you who came. I wanted to stay with you and observe your actions, then adopt them, but I did not see you doing any great deed. So what is it that has brought you to the rank that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned? He said: It is only what you have seen. I left from there, but as I turned away, he called me back and said: It is only what you have seen, except that I never hold any grudge in my heart against any Muslim, nor do I envy anyone for the good that Allah Almighty has granted him. Upon this, Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: This is the deed that has brought you to this rank, and we do not have the strength to do it.
