Chapter: The Virtue Of Praying For The Muslims In Their Absence
Hadith 2732
حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ حَفْصٍ الْوَكِيعِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَرِيزٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ الدَّرْدَاءِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ مُسْلِمٍ يَدْعُو لِأَخِيهِ بِظَهْرِ الْغَيْبِ إِلَّا قَالَ الْمَلَكُ وَلَكَ بِمِثْلٍ " .
Abu Dharr (RA) reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: There is no believing servant who supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence) that the Angels do say: The same be for you too.
Hadith 2732
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ سَرْوَانَ الْمُعَلِّمُ ، حَدَّثَنِي طَلْحَةُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَرِيزٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمُّ الدَّرْدَاءِ ، قَالَتْ : حَدَّثَنِي سَيِّدِي أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَنْ دَعَا لِأَخِيهِ بِظَهْرِ الْغَيْبِ قَالَ : الْمَلَكُ الْمُوَكَّلُ بِهِ آمِينَ وَلَكَ بِمِثْلٍ " .
Umm Darda' reported: My husband reported that he heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence), the Angel commissioned (for carrying supplication to his Lord) says: Amen, and it is for you also.
Hadith 2733
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ صَفْوَانَ ، وَكَانَتْ تَحْتَهُ الدَّرْدَاءُ ، قَالَ : قَدِمْتُ الشَّامَ ، فَأَتَيْتُ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ فَلَمْ أَجِدْهُ ، وَوَجَدْتُ أُمَّ الدَّرْدَاءِ ، فَقَالَتْ : أَتُرِيدُ الْحَجَّ الْعَامَ ؟ ، فَقُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَتْ : فَادْعُ اللَّهَ لَنَا بِخَيْرٍ ، فَإِنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، كَانَ يَقُولُ : " دَعْوَةُ الْمَرْءِ الْمُسْلِمِ لِأَخِيهِ بِظَهْرِ الْغَيْبِ مُسْتَجَابَةٌ عِنْدَ رَأْسِهِ مَلَكٌ مُوَكَّلٌ كُلَّمَا دَعَا لِأَخِيهِ بِخَيْرٍ ، قَالَ الْمَلَكُ الْمُوَكَّلُ بِهِ : آمِينَ وَلَكَ بِمِثْلٍ " ،
Safwan (and he was Ibn 'Abdullah bin Safwan, and he had been married to Umm Darda') reported: I visited Abu Darda's house in Syria. I did not find him there but Umm Darda' (was present at the house). She said: Do you intend to perform Hajj during this year? I said: Yes. She said: Do supplicate Allah for blessings upon us, for Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) (may peace be upon hiin) used to say: The supplication of a Muslim for his brother at his back (in his absence) is responded so long as he makes a supplication for blessings for his brother and the commissioned Angel says: Amen, and says: May it be for you too. I went to the bazar and met Abfi Dardi' and he narrated like this from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) .
Hadith 2732
قَالَ : فَخَرَجْتُ إِلَى السُّوقِ فَلَقِيتُ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ ، فَقَالَ لِي مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ يَرْوِيهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ،
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Safwan bin 'Abdullah bin Safwan with the same chain of transmitters.
Hadith 2732
وحَدَّثَنَاه أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ ، وَقَالَ : عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ صَفْوَانَ .
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Safwan b. 'Abdullah b. Safwan with the same chain of transmitters.
