باب اسْتِحُبَابِ لَعْقِ الْأَصَابِعِ وَالْقَصْعَةِ ، وَأَكُلِ اللُّقْمَةِ السَّاقِطَةِ بَعْدَ مَسْحِ مَا يُصِيبُهَا مِنّ أَذًي ، وَّكَراهَةِ مَسْح الْيَدِ قَبْلَ لَعْقِهَا لِاحْتِمَالِ كَوْنِ بَرَكَةِ الطَّعَامِ فَي ذٰلِكَ الْبَاقِي وَ أَنَّ السُّنَّةُ الْأَكْلُ بِثَلَاثِ أَصَابِعَ
Chapter: It is recommended to lick one's fingers and wipe the bowl, and to eat a piece of food that is dropped after removing any dirt on it. It is disliked to wipe one's hand before licking it, because of the possibility that the blessing of the food may be in that remaining part. The Sunnah is to eat with three fingers

Hadith 2031
Ibn 'Abbas reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him.) as saying: When any one of you eats food he should not wipe his hand until he has licked it himself or has given it to someone else to lick.

Ibn 'Abbas reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When any one of you eats food he should not wipe his hand until he has licked it or got it licked by (someone else).

Ibn Ka'b bin Malik reported on the authority of his father that he saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) licking his three fingers (after having finished the food). Ibn Hatim made no mention of "three". This hadith is also narrated through another chain of transmitters.

Ibn Ka'b bin Malik reported on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to eat (food) with three fingers and he licked his hand before wiping it (with towel).

سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ
أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ
جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا وَقَعَتْ لُقْمَةُ أَحَدِكُمْ ، فَلْيَأْخُذْهَا فَلْيُمِطْ مَا كَانَ بِهَا مِنْ أَذًى وَلْيَأْكُلْهَا ، وَلَا يَدَعْهَا لِلشَّيْطَانِ ، وَلَا يَمْسَحْ يَدَهُ بِالْمِنْدِيلِ حَتَّى يَلْعَقَ أَصَابِعَهُ ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَدْرِي فِي أَيِّ طَعَامِهِ الْبَرَكَةُ " .
Jabir reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When any one of you drops a mouthful he should pick it up and remove any of the filth on it, and then eat it, and should not leave it for the Satan, and should not wipe his hand with towel until he has licked his fingers, for he does not know in what portion of the food the blessing lies.

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Sufyan with the same chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of wording.

جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ
الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ
أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ
جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَحْضُرُ أَحَدَكُمْ عِنْدَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِنْ شَأْنِهِ حَتَّى يَحْضُرَهُ عِنْدَ طَعَامِهِ ، فَإِذَا سَقَطَتْ مِنْ أَحَدِكُمُ اللُّقْمَةُ ، فَلْيُمِطْ مَا كَانَ بِهَا مِنْ أَذًى ثُمَّ لِيَأْكُلْهَا ، وَلَا يَدَعْهَا لِلشَّيْطَانِ ، فَإِذَا فَرَغَ فَلْيَلْعَقْ أَصَابِعَهُ ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَدْرِي فِي أَيِّ طَعَامِهِ تَكُونُ الْبَرَكَةُ " .
Jabir reported: I heard Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying: The Satan is present with any one of you in everything he does; he is present even when he eats food; so if any one of you drops a mouthful he should remove away anything filthy on it and eat it and not leave for the devil; and when he finishes (food) he should lick his fingers, for he does not know in what portion of his food the blessing lies.
Hadith 2033
This hadith is reported on the authority of A'mash with the same chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of words but no mention is made of the first part of the hadith, i. e. the Satan is present with any one of you.

حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا
ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ
أَنَسٍ : " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا أَكَلَ طَعَامًا لَعِقَ أَصَابِعَهُ الثَّلَاثَ ، قَالَ : وَقَالَ : " إِذَا سَقَطَتْ لُقْمَةُ أَحَدِكُمْ ، فَلْيُمِطْ عَنْهَا الْأَذَى وَلْيَأْكُلْهَا وَلَا يَدَعْهَا لِلشَّيْطَانِ ، وَأَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَسْلُتَ الْقَصْعَةَ " ، قَالَ : " فَإِنَّكُمْ لَا تَدْرُونَ فِي أَيِّ طَعَامِكُمُ الْبَرَكَةُ " .
Anas reported that when Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ate food he licked his three fingers, and he said: When any one of you drops a mouthful he should remove anything filthy from it and then eat it, and should not leave it for the Satan. He also commanded us that we should wipe the dish saying: You do not know in what portion of your food the blessing lies.
Hadith 2035
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When any one of you eats food he should lick his fingers, for he does not know in what part of the food sticking to his fingers the blessing lies.
