باب الأَمْرِ بِتَغْطِيَةِ الإِنَاءِ وَإِيكَاءِ السِّقَاءِ وَإِغْلاَقِ الأَبْوَابِ وَذِكْرِ اسْمِ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا وَإِطْفَاءِ السِّرَاجِ وَالنَّارِ عِنْدَ النَّوْمِ وَكَفِّ الصِّبْيَانِ وَالْمَوَاشِي بَعْدَ الْمَغْرِبِ:
Chapter: It is recommended to cover vessels, tie up waterskins, close doors and mention the name of Allah over them, extinguish lamps and fires when going to sleep, and keep children and animals in after maghrib
Hadith 2012
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " غَطُّوا الْإِنَاءَ ، وَأَوْكُوا السِّقَاءَ ، وَأَغْلِقُوا الْبَابَ ، وَأَطْفِئُوا السِّرَاجَ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لَا يَحُلُّ سِقَاءً ، وَلَا يَفْتَحُ بَابًا ، وَلَا يَكْشِفُ إِنَاءً ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَّا أَنْ يَعْرُضَ عَلَى إِنَائِهِ عُودًا ، وَيَذْكُرَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ ، فَلْيَفْعَلْ فَإِنَّ الْفُوَيْسِقَةَ تُضْرِمُ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْبَيْتِ بَيْتَهُمْ " ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ قُتَيْبَة فِي حَدِيثِهِ وَأَغْلِقُوا الْبَابَ .
Jabir reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Cover vessels, waterskins, close the doors and extinguish the lamps, for the Satan does not loosen the waterskin, does not open the door and does not uncover the vessels. And if one amongst you fails to find (something) to cover it well, he should cover it by placing (a piece of) wood across it. Qutaiba did not mention the closing of the doors in the hadith transmitted by him.
Hadith 2012
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ ، قَالَ : وَأَكْفِئُوا الْإِنَاءَ أَوْ خَمِّرُوا الْإِنَاءَ ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ تَعْرِيضَ الْعُودِ عَلَى الْإِنَاءِ .
This hadith is reported on the authority of Jabir but with a slight change of wording, and he did not mention the words: "Putting a stick across the vessel."
Hadith 2012
وحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَغْلِقُوا الْبَابَ ، فَذَكَرَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ اللَّيْثِ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ ، قَالَ : وَخَمِّرُوا الْآنِيَةَ ، وَقَالَ : تُضْرِمُ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْبَيْتِ ثِيَابَهُمْ .
Jabir reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Shut the doors; the rest of the hadith is the same but with a slight variation of wording: Cover the utensils, and further said: It (the mouse) may set fire to the clothes of the residents of the house.
Hadith 2012
وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِهِمْ ، وَقَالَ : وَالْفُوَيْسِقَةُ تُضْرِمُ الْبَيْتَ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ .
This hadith has been reported on the authority of Jabir through another chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of words: "The mouse may set the house on fire over its inhabitants."
Hadith 2012
وحَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا كَانَ جُنْحُ اللَّيْلِ أَوْ أَمْسَيْتُمْ ، فَكُفُّوا صِبْيَانَكُمْ ، فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَنْتَشِرُ حِينَئِذٍ ، فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ سَاعَةٌ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَخَلُّوهُمْ وَأَغْلِقُوا الْأَبْوَابَ ، وَاذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ ، فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لَا يَفْتَحُ بَابًا مُغْلَقًا وَأَوْكُوا قِرَبَكُمْ ، وَاذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ وَخَمِّرُوا آنِيَتَكُمْ ، وَاذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ وَلَوْ أَنْ تَعْرُضُوا عَلَيْهَا شَيْئًا وَأَطْفِئُوا مَصَابِيحَكُمْ " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) having said: When the wings of the night (spread) or it is night, restrain your children (from going out), for the Satan is abroad at that time, and when a part of the night is passed, free them and shut the doors, making mention of God's name, for the Satan does not open a closed door; and tighten the (mouths of waterskins and mention the name of Allah, cover your utensils and mention the name of Allah even though you should just put something on them, and extinguish your lamps.
Hadith 2012
وحَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : نَحْوًا مِمَّا أَخْبَرَ عَطَاءٌ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ لَا يَقُولُ اذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ،
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Jabir bin'Abdullah (RA) through another chain of transmitters.
Hadith 2012
وحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ النَّوْفَلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، وَعَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍكرواية روح .
This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Ibn Juraij.
Hadith 2013
وحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا تُرْسِلُوا فَوَاشِيَكُمْ وَصِبْيَانَكُمْ إِذَا غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ حَتَّى تَذْهَبَ ، فَحْمَةُ الْعِشَاءِ فَإِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ تَنْبَعِثُ إِذَا غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ حَتَّى تَذْهَبَ فَحْمَةُ الْعِشَاءِ " .
And Ahmad ibn Yunus narrated to us, Zuhayr narrated to us, Abu al-Zubayr narrated to us, from Jabir. And Yahya ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Khaythamah informed us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Do not release your livestock and your children when the sun sets until the darkness of the evening passes, for the devils spread out when the sun sets until the darkness of the evening passes."
Hadith 2013
وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِنَحْوِ حَدِيثِ زُهَيْرٍ .
Jabir bin'Abdullah (RA) reported this hadith through another chain of transmitters,
Hadith 2014
وحَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ الْهَادِ اللَّيْثِيُّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَي بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ الْقَعْقَاعِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " غَطُّوا الْإِنَاءَ وَأَوْكُوا السِّقَاءَ ، فَإِنَّ فِي السَّنَةِ لَيْلَةً يَنْزِلُ فِيهَا وَبَاءٌ لَا يَمُرُّ بِإِنَاءٍ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ غِطَاءٌ أَوْ سِقَاءٍ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ وِكَاءٌ ، إِلَّا نَزَلَ فِيهِ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْوَبَاءِ " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Cover the vessels and tie the waterskin, for there is a night in a year when pestilence descends, and it does not pass an uncovered vessel or an untied waterskin but some of that pestilence descending into it.
Hadith 2014
وحَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ بِمِثْلِهِ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ ، قَالَ : فَإِنَّ فِي السَّنَةِ يَوْمًا يَنْزِلُ فِيهِ وَبَاءٌ وَزَادَ فِي آخِرِ الْحَدِيثِ ، قَالَ اللَّيْثُ : فَالْأَعَاجِمُ عِنْدَنَا يَتَّقُونَ ذَلِكَ فِي كَانُونَ الْأَوَّلِ .
This hadith is reported on the authority of Laith bin Sa'd with the same chain of transmitters, but with a slight variation in wording (and that is that) he (the Holy Prophet) said: There is a day in a year when descends the pestilence; at the end of the hadith Laith said that the non Arabs save themselves from it in Kanun Awwal (this is the month of December).
Hadith 2015
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَا تَتْرُكُوا النَّارَ فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ حِينَ تَنَامُونَ " .
Salim, on the authority of his father, reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) having said: Do not leave the fire burning in your houses when you go to sleep.
Hadith 2016
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْأَشْعَثِيُّ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، وَأَبُو عَامِرٍ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لِأَبِي عَامِرٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ بُرَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ، قَالَ : احْتَرَقَ بَيْتٌ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ بِالْمَدِينَة مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَلَمَّا حُدِّثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِشَأْنِهِمْ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ هَذِهِ النَّارَ إِنَّمَا هِيَ عَدُوٌّ لَكُمْ ، فَإِذَا نِمْتُمْ فَأَطْفِئُوهَا عَنْكُمْ " .
Abu Musa reported that a house was burnt down in Madinah during the night over its inhabitants. When their matter was reported to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) , he said; This fire is an enemy of yours. So when you go to sleep, extinguish it.
