باب بَيَانِ أَنَّ كُلَّ مُسْكِرٍ خَمْرٌ وَأَنَّ كُلَّ خَمْرٍ حَرَامٌ:
Chapter: Every intoxicant is Khamr and all Khamr is Haram
Hadith 2001
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْبِتْعِ ، فَقَالَ : " كُلُّ شَرَابٍ أَسْكَرَ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ " .
'A'isha reported: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was asked about "Bit", whereupon he said: Every drink that causes intoxication is forbidden.
Hadith 2001
وحَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَي التُّجِيبِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَائِشَةَ ، تَقُولُ : سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْبِتْعِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كُلُّ شَرَابٍ أَسْكَرَ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ " .
'A'isha reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was asked about "Bit", whereupon he said that everything that causes intoxication is forbidden.
Hadith 2001
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنْ صَالِحٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حميد ، قَالَا : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، وَلَيْسَ فِي حَدِيثِ سُفْيَانَ وَصَالِحٍ سُئِلَ عَنِ الْبِتْعِ ، وَهُوَ فِي حَدِيثِ مَعْمَرٍ وَفِي حَدِيثِ صَالِحٍ ، أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : كُلُّ شَرَابٍ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ .
This hadith has been reported on the authority of Zuhri with this chain of transmitters but in the hadith transmitted on the authority of Sufyan and Salih (these words are not found) "she was asked about Bit". (These words are found in the hadith) transmitted on the authority of Ma'mar and in the hadith transmitted on the authority of Salih (only these words are found) that she (Hadrat 'A'isha) had heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) say: Every intoxicating drink is forbidden.
Hadith 1733
وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِقُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ، قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَا وَمُعَاذَ بْنَ جَبَلٍ إِلَى الْيَمَنِ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ شَرَابًا يُصْنَعُ بِأَرْضِنَا يُقَالُ لَهُ الْمِزْرُ مِنَ الشَّعِيرِ ، وَشَرَابٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْبِتْعُ مِنَ الْعَسَلِ ، فَقَالَ : " كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ " .
Abu Musa reported: Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) sent me and Mu'adh bin Jabal to Yemen. I said: Allah's Messenger, there is prepared in our land a wine out of barley which is known as Mizr (beer of our times) and a wine from honey which is known as Bit, (are these also forbidden? ), whereupon he said: Every intoxicant is forbidden.
Hadith 1733
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو ، سَمِعَهُ مِنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَهُ وَمُعَاذًا إِلَى الْيَمَنِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُمَا : " بَشِّرَا وَيَسِّرَا وَعَلِّمَا وَلَا تُنَفِّرَا ، وَأُرَاهُ قَالَ : وَتَطَاوَعَا ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا وَلَّى رَجَعَ أَبُو مُوسَى ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ لَهُمْ شَرَابًا مِنَ الْعَسَلِ يُطْبَخُ حَتَّى يَعْقِدَ وَالْمِزْرُ يُصْنَعُ مِنَ الشَّعِيرِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كُلُّ مَا أَسْكَرَ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ " .
Abu Burda reported on the authority of his grandfather that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sent him and Mu'adh bin Jabal to Yemen and said to them: Give good tidings to the (people) and make things easy (for them), teach (them), and do not repel (them); and I think he also said: Cooperate cheerfully with each other. When he (the Holy Prophet) turned his back, Abu Musa returned to him and said: Allah's Messenger, they (the people of Yemen) have a drink which is (made) from honey and which is prepared by cooking it until it coagulates, and Mizr is prepared from barley, whereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Every intoxicant that detains you from prayer is forbidden.
Hadith 2001
وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي خَلَفٍ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِابْنِ أَبِي خَلَفٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ عَدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُنَيْسَةَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بُرْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمُعَاذًا إِلَى الْيَمَنِ ، فَقَالَ : " ادْعُوَا النَّاسَ وَبَشِّرَا وَلَا تُنَفِّرَا وَيَسِّرَا وَلَا تُعَسِّرَا " ، قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَفْتِنَا فِي شَرَابَيْنِ كُنَّا نَصْنَعُهُمَا بِالْيَمَنِ الْبِتْعُ ، وَهُوَ مِنَ الْعَسَلِ يُنْبَذُ حَتَّى يَشْتَدَّ وَالْمِزْرُ ، وَهُوَ مِنَ الذُّرَةِ وَالشَّعِيرِ يُنْبَذُ حَتَّى يَشْتَدَّ ، قَالَ : وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ أُعْطِيَ جَوَامِعَ الْكَلِمِ بِخَوَاتِمِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " أَنْهَى عَنْ كُلِّ مُسْكِرٍ أَسْكَرَ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ " .
Abu Burda reported on the authority of his father: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sent me and Mu'adh to Yemen saying: Call people (to the path of righteousness) and give good tidings to the (people), and do not repel them, make things easy for them and do not make things difficult. I (Burda) said: Allah's Messenger, give us a religious verdict about two kinds of drinks which we prepare in Yemen. One is Bit' which is prepared from honey; it is a fermented Nabidh and is strong and turns into wine, and (the second is) Mizr which is prepared from millet and barley. Thereupon, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) , who had been gifted with the most eloquent and pithy expressions, said: I forbid you from every intoxicant that keeps you away from prayer.
Hadith 2002
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ يَعْنِي الدَّرَاوَرْدِيَّ ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ غَزِيَّةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَدِمَ مِنْ جَيْشَانَ وَجَيْشَانُ مِنْ الْيَمَنِ فَسَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ شَرَابٍ يَشْرَبُونَهُ بِأَرْضِهِمْ مِنَ الذُّرَةِ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْمِزْرُ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَوَ مُسْكِرٌ هُوَ ؟ " ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ ، إِنَّ عَلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَهْدًا لِمَنْ يَشْرَبُ الْمُسْكِرَ أَنْ يَسْقِيَهُ مِنْ طِينَةِ الْخَبَالِ " ، قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَمَا طِينَةُ الْخَبَالِ ؟ ، قَالَ : " عَرَقُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ أَوْ عُصَارَةُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ " .
Jabir reported that a person came from Jaishan, a town of Yemen, and he asked Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) about the wine which was drunk in their land and which was prepared from millet and was called Mizr. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) asked whether that was intoxicating. He said: Yes. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Every intoxicant is forbidden. Verily Allah the Exalted and Majestic, made a covenant to those who drank intoxicants to make their drink Tinat al-Khabal. They said: Allah's Messenger, what is Tinat al-Khabal? He said: It is the sweat of the denizens of Hell or the discharge of the denizens of Hell.
Hadith 2003
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الْعَتَكِيُّ ، وَأَبُو كَامِلٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ خَمْرٌ ، وَكُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ ، وَمَنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ فِي الدُّنْيَا ، فَمَاتَ وَهُوَ يُدْمِنُهَا لَمْ يَتُبْ لَمْ يَشْرَبْهَا فِي الْآخِرَةِ " .
Ibn 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Every intoxicant is Khamr and every intoxicant is forbidden. He who drinks wine in this world and dies while he is addicted to it, not having repented, will not be given a drink in the Hereafter.
Hadith 2003
وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ رَوْحِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ خَمْرٌ وَكُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ " .
Ibn 'Umar, through another chain of transmitters; reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) having said this: Every intoxicant is Khamr and every intoxicant is forbidden.
Hadith 2003
وحَدَّثَنَا صَالِحُ بْنُ مِسْمَارٍ السُّلَمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ .
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Musa bin Uqba with the same chain of transmitters.
Hadith 2003
وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي وَهُوَ الْقَطَّانُ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا نَافِعٌ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : وَلَا أَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ خَمْرٌ وَكُلُّ خَمْرٍ حَرَامٌ " .
Nafi' reported Ibn 'Umar as saying: I do not know this but from Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) who said: Every intoxicant is Khamr and every Khamr is forbidden.
