Shaiban bin Farukh narrated to us, he said: Hammad bin Salamah narrated to us, he said: Thabit Banani narrated from Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Buraq was brought to me. It is a white, long animal, larger than a donkey and smaller than a mule, it places its hoof where its gaze ends." He said: "I mounted it until I reached Bayt al-Maqdis." He said: "I tied it to the same ring (hook) to which the Prophets (peace be upon them) used to tie their mounts." He said: "Then I entered the mosque and prayed two rak‘ahs in it, then (from there) I came out and Jibril brought me a vessel of wine and a vessel of milk. I chose the milk. So Jibril said: You have chosen the natural disposition (fitrah), then he took us up towards the heaven."
Jibril asked for (the door) to be opened, so it was asked: "Who are you?" He said: "I am Jibril." It was said: "And who is with you?" He said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me." It was said: "And has he been sent for?" He said: "He has been sent for." So (the door) was opened for us and suddenly I was before Adam (peace be upon him), he welcomed me and prayed for good for me, then he took us up to the second heaven, Jibril asked for the door to be opened, so it was asked: "Who are you?" He said: "I am Jibril." It was said: "Who is with you?" He said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me." It was said: "Has he been sent for?" He said: "He has been sent for." So the door was opened for us, and now I was before two maternal cousins, ‘Isa ibn Maryam and Yahya ibn Zakariya (peace be upon them), both welcomed me and prayed for good for me, then Jibril took us up to the third heaven, Jibril asked for the door to be opened, so it was said: "Who are you?" He said: "I am Jibril." It was said: "Who is with you?" He said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me." It was said: "Has a message been sent to him?" He said: "(Yes) it has been sent." So the door was opened for us and I saw Yusuf (peace be upon him), he was such that half of (all human) beauty had been given to him, he welcomed me and prayed for good for me, then we were taken up to the fourth heaven, Jibril asked for the door to be opened, so it was said: "Who are these?" He said: "I am Jibril." It was said: "And who is with you?" He said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me." It was said: "Has a message been sent to him?" He said: "Yes, it has been sent." So the door was opened for us, then before me was Idris (peace be upon him). He welcomed me and prayed for good for me. The statement of Allah, the Exalted: «وَرَفَعْنَاهُمَكَانًاعَلِيًّا» "And We raised him (Idris) to a high station." Then we were taken up to the fifth heaven, so Jibril asked for the door to be opened, it was said: "Who are you?" He said: "I am Jibril." It was said: "And who is with you?" He said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me." It was asked: "Has a message been sent to him?" He said: "Yes, it has been sent." So the door was opened for us. Then I met Harun (peace be upon him), he welcomed me and prayed for good for me, then we were taken up to the sixth heaven, Jibril asked for the door to be opened, so it was said: "Who are these?" He said: "I am Jibril." It was said: "Who is with you?" He said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me." It was asked: "Has a message been sent to him?" He said: "Yes, it has been sent." So the door was opened for us. Then I met Musa (peace be upon him), he welcomed me and prayed for good for me, then we were taken up to the seventh heaven, Jibril asked for the door to be opened. It was said: "Who are these?" He said: "I am Jibril." It was said: "Who is with you?" He said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me." It was said: "Has a message been sent to him?" He said: "(Yes) it has been sent." So the door was opened for us and I was before Ibrahim (peace be upon him). He was reclining against the Bayt al-Ma‘mur. In it, every day seventy thousand angels enter (for worship), then never return to it again, then Jibril took me to Sidrat al-Muntaha (the Lote Tree at the utmost boundary), its leaves are like the ears of elephants and its fruits like big jars, when by Allah’s command that which was to cover it covered it, it changed, there is no creature of Allah that can describe its beauty, then Allah revealed to me what He revealed, and He made fifty prayers obligatory upon me every day and night. I descended and came to Musa (peace be upon him), so he said: "What has your Lord enjoined upon your Ummah?" I said: "Fifty prayers." Musa (peace be upon him) said: "Return to your Lord and ask Him for reduction, for your Ummah will not be able to bear it, I have tested and tried the Children of Israel." He said: "So I returned to my Lord and said: O my Lord! Reduce (the burden) for my Ummah." Allah reduced it by five prayers. I came to Musa (peace be upon him) and said: "Allah has reduced it by five prayers." He said: "Your Ummah will not be able to bear it. Return to your Lord and ask Him for reduction." He said: "I kept going back and forth between my Lord, Blessed and Exalted, and Musa (peace be upon him) until Allah said: O Muhammad! There are five prayers every day and night, and (in reward) for every prayer is ten (rewards), (thus) they are fifty prayers, and whoever intends to do a good deed but does not do it, one good deed will be written for him, and if he does it, ten good deeds will be written for him. And whoever intends to do an evil deed but does not do it, nothing will be written, and if he does it, one evil deed will be written." He said: "I descended and came to Musa (peace be upon him) and informed him, he said: Return to your Lord and ask Him for (more) reduction." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I said: I have gone back to my Lord (so many times) that I am now ashamed before Him."

Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that Gabriel (ؑ) came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace be upo him) while he was playing with his playmates. He took hold of him and lay him prostrate on the ground and tore open his breast and took out the heart from it and then extracted a blood-clot out of it and said: That was the part of Satan in thee. And then he washed it with the water of Zamzam in a golden basin and then it was joined together and restored to it place. The boys came running to his mother, i. e. his nurse, and said: Verily Muhammad has been murdered. They all rushed toward him (and found him all right) His color was changed, Anas said. Ibn Shihab narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I was in Mecca when the roof of my house was opened, Jibreel descended, split open my chest, then washed it with the water of Zamzam, then brought a golden basin filled with wisdom and faith, poured it into my chest, then closed it up. Then he took my hand and raised me towards the sky. When we reached the lowest (first) heaven, Jibreel said to the gatekeeper of the lowest heaven: Open the door." He said: "Who is this?" He said: "This is Jibreel." He asked: "Is there anyone with you?" He said: "Yes, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me." He asked: "Has he been called?" He said: "Yes." Then he opened the door. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When we reached the sky of the world, I saw a man, on his right side there was a great multitude of creatures and on his left side also a great multitude of creatures. When that man looked to his right, he laughed, and when he looked to his left, he wept." He said: "Welcome, O righteous Prophet and O righteous son." I asked Jibreel: "Who is this?" Jibreel said: "This is Adam (peace be upon him), and those on his right are the people of Paradise and those on his left are the people of Hell, so when he looks to his right he laughs and when he looks to his left he weeps." Then Jibreel took me to the second heaven and said to its gatekeeper: "Open the door." He said that the gatekeeper of the second heaven said the same as the gatekeeper of the sky of the world: "Open the door." Its gatekeeper also spoke as the first one did and opened the door. Hazrat Anas bin Malik said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said that I met Adam, Idris, Musa, and Ibrahim (peace be upon them) in the heavens (mentioning briefly). He (Abu Dharr) did not specify their stations, but he did say that Adam (peace be upon him) met him on the first heaven and Ibrahim (peace be upon him) on the seventh heaven (the narrator's error was corrected that Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was on the sixth heaven). He said: When Jibreel and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by Idris (peace be upon him), he said: "Welcome, O righteous Prophet and righteous brother." Then they passed on, so I asked: "Who is this?" (Jibreel) said: "This is Idris (peace be upon him)." Then I passed by Musa (peace be upon him), and he said: "Welcome, O righteous Prophet and righteous brother." He said: I asked: "Who is this?" He said: "This is Musa (peace be upon him)." Then I passed by Isa (peace be upon him), and he said: "Welcome, O righteous Prophet and righteous brother." I asked: "Who is this?" He said: "This is Isa son of Maryam (peace be upon him)." He said: "Then I passed by Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and he said: 'Righteous Prophet and righteous son, welcome!'" I asked: "Who is this?" He said: "This is Ibrahim (peace be upon him)." Ibn Shihab said: Ibn Hazm told me that Ibn Abbas and Abu Habba Ansari (may Allah be pleased with them) used to say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then (Jibreel) took me up until I appeared before a high place, from within which I was hearing the sound of pens." Ibn Hazm and Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah the Exalted made fifty prayers obligatory upon my Ummah, I returned with this (command) until I passed by Musa (peace be upon him), so Musa (peace be upon him) asked: What has your Lord enjoined upon your Ummah?" He said: "I replied: He has made fifty prayers obligatory upon them." Musa (peace be upon him) said to me: "Return to your Lord, for your Ummah will not be able to bear it." He said: "So I returned to my Lord and He reduced a portion of it for me." He said: "I returned to Musa (peace be upon him) and informed him." He said: "Return to your Lord, for your Ummah will not be able to bear it (either)." He said: "I returned to my Lord, and He said: These are five and they are (equal to) fifty, My word does not change with Me." He said: "I returned to Musa (peace be upon him), and he said: Return to your Lord." So I said: "I am ashamed before my Lord (to ask repeatedly)." He said: "Then Jibreel took me on until we reached Sidrat al-Muntaha, and it was covered with such colors that I do not know what they were. Then I was taken into Paradise, in it were domes of pearls and its soil was musk."

Anas bin Malik (RA) reported on the authority of Malik bin Sa sa', perhaps a person of his tribe, that the Prophet (ﷺ) of Allah (ﷺ) said: I was near the House (i. e. Ka’bah) in a state between sleep and wakefulness when I heard someone say: He is the third among the two persons. Then he came to me and took me with him. Then a golden basin containing the water of Zamzam was brought to me and my heart was opened up to such and such (part). Qatada said: I asked him who was with me (i e. the narrator) and what he meant by such and such (part). He replied: (It means that it was opened) up to the lower part of his abdomen (Then the hadith continues): My heart was extracted and it was washed with the water of Zamzam and then it was restored in its original position, after which it was filled with faith and wisdom. I was then brought a white beast which is called al-Buraq, bigger than a donkey and smaller than a mule. Its stride was as long as the eye could reach. I was mounted on it, and then we went forth till we reached the lowest heaven. Gabriel (ؑ) asked for the (gate) to be opened, and it was said: Who is he? He replied: Gabriel (ؑ). It was again said: Who is with thee? He replied: Muhammad (ﷺ) . It was said: Has he been sent for? He ( Gabriel (ؑ)) said: Yes. He (the Prophet) said: Then (the gate) was opened for us (and it was said): Welcome unto him! His is a blessed arrival. Then we came to Adam ؑ(peace be upon him). And he (the narrator) narrated the whole account of the hadith. (The Holy Prophet) observed that he met Jesus in the second heaven, Yahya (peace be on both of them) in the third heaven, Yusuf in the third, Idris in the fourth, Harun in the fifth (peace and blessings of Allah be upon them). Then we travelled on till we reached the sixth heaven and came to Moses (ؑ) (peace be upon him) and I greeted him and he said: Welcome unto righteous brother and righteous prophet. And when I passed (by him) he wept, and a voice was heard saying: What makes thee weep? He said: My Lord, he is a young man whom Thou hast sent after me (as a prophet) and his followers will enter Paradise in greater numbers than my followers. Then we travelled on till we reached the seventh heaven and I came to Ibrahim. He (the narrator) narrat- ed in this hadith that the Prophet (ﷺ) of Allah (ﷺ) told that he saw four rivers which flowed from (the root of the lote-tree of the farthest limits): two manifest rivers and two hidden rivers. I said: ' Gabriel (ؑ)! what are these rivers? He replied: The two hidden rivers are the rivers of Paradise, and as regards the two manifest ones, they are the Nile and the Euphrates. Then the Bait-ul-Ma'mur was raised up to me. I said: O Gabriel (ؑ)! what is this? He replied: It is the Bait-ul-Ma'mur. Seventy thousand angels enter into it daily and, after they come out, they never return again. Two vessels were then brought to me. The first one contained wine and the second one contained milk, and both of them were placed before me. I chose milk. It was said: You did right. Allah will guide rightly through you your Ummah on the natural course. Then fifty prayers daily were made obligatory for me. And then he narrated the rest of the hadith to the end.
