Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: Four customs and practices will, in one form or another, remain within the Ummah from the eras and traditions of Jahiliyyah; as a whole, not all people will refrain from them, although many will avoid them. And this prophecy of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is being fulfilled word for word.
People take pride in their lineage and ancestry and disparage the lineage and ancestry of others. However, being born into a particular family is neither a personal nor an acquired merit or virtue of a person. If, in worldly terms, Allah Ta’ala has caused someone to be born into a noble family, then this is a favor and grace that demands gratitude and thankfulness, not something worthy of pride and arrogance.
And among many nations, there exists the belief that a certain star sets in the west at dawn, and in its place another rises in the east, and that it is the result of this rising and setting that rain descends. However, in reality, this has no role in the descent of rain. At most, it can be considered a sign, from which the occurrence of rain is not necessary.
Similarly, in some families, wailing (niyahah), chest-beating, or lamentation (nadbah) is common. In fact, even religious households are not safe from this curse. Whereas its punishment is so severe that itching and scabies will be inflicted upon the entire body of the woman who wails. May Allah protect us from it.
