Asma' bint Abu Bakr (RA) said: The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) was one day (i. e. on the day when the sun eclipsed) so perturbed that he (in haste) took hold of the outer garment (of a female member of his family) and it was later on that his (own) cloak was sent to him. He stood in prayer along with people for such a long time that if a man came he did not realise that the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) had observed ruku', as it has been narrated about ruku' in connection with long qiyam.
Abu Juraij narrated this hadith with the same chain of transmitters (but with the addition of these words):" It was for a long duration that he (the Holy Prophet) observed qiyam and he would then observe ruku'. (The narrator also added) I (Asma') looked at a woman who was older than I, and at another who was weaker than I.
Asma' daughter of Abu Bakr (RA) reported: The sun eclipsed during the lifetime of the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) ; so he felt perturbed and he, by mistake, took hold of the outer garment of a woman till he was given his own cloak. After this I satisfied my need and then came and entered the mosque. I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) standing in prayer. I stood along with him. He prolonged his qiyam till I wished to sit down. Then I cast a glance towards an old woman. So I said: She is older than I. I, therefore, kept standing. He (the Holy Prophet) then observed ruku', and prolonged his ruku'. He then raised his head. He then prolonged his qiyam to such an extent that if a person happened to come he would have thought that he had not observed the ruku'.
Narrated Asma' bint Abi Bakr: The Prophet prayed the eclipse prayer, and then said, "Hell was displayed so close that I said, 'O my Lord ! Am I going to be one of its inhabitants?"' Suddenly he saw a woman. I think he said, who was being scratched by a cat. He said, "What is wrong with her?" He was told, "She had imprisoned it (i.e. the cat) till it died of hunger."

Hadith Commentary: The purpose of bringing this hadith here is also to show that if a person, despite having the ability and ease, does not provide food or water to any living being, and that creature dies due to hunger or thirst, then this crime can become a cause for that person to enter Hellfire.
Indeed, this woman imprisoned the cat until it died of hunger and thirst, and thus she deserved this punishment. If she had given it water to drink, she would not have been punished. From this, the virtue of giving water to drink is understood, and this is in accordance with the chapter heading. (‘Ayni)

Narrated Asma' bint Abi Bakr: The Prophet once offered the eclipse prayer. He stood for a long time and then did a prolonged bowing. He stood up straight again and kept on standing for a long time, then bowed a long bowing and then stood up straight and then prostrated a prolonged prostration and then lifted his head and prostrated a prolonged prostration. And then he stood up for a long time and then did a prolonged bowing and then stood up straight again and kept on standing for a long time. Then he bowed a long bowing and then stood up straight and then prostrated a prolonged prostration and then lifted his head and went for a prolonged prostration. On completion o the prayer, he said, "Paradise became s near to me that if I had dared, I would have plucked one of its bunches for you and Hell became so near to me that said, 'O my Lord will I be among those people?' Then suddenly I saw a woman and a cat was lacerating her with it claws. On inquiring, it was said that the woman had imprisoned the cat till it died of starvation and she neither fed it no freed it so that it could feed itself."

Hadith Commentary: The method of prayer is the same for both solar and lunar eclipses. Delivering a sermon and making supplication after the prayer is also established. From this narration, it is also understood that whoever oppresses animals will be recompensed for that in the Hereafter. Hafiz (rahimahullah) has transmitted from Ibn Rashid (rahimahullah) the correspondence between the hadith and the chapter as follows: The supplication and request for mercy by the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is mentioned within the prayer itself, so it is understood that making all kinds of supplications within the prayer is permissible, provided that those supplications remain within the boundaries set by the Shariah.
