Abu Kurayb and Wasil ibn Abd al-A‘la narrated to us, they said: Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from Abu Malik al-Ashja‘i, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurayrah, and from Rib‘i ibn Hirash, from Hudhayfah, they said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Allah led astray from Friday those who were before us. So for the Jews, their day was Saturday, and for the Christians, their day was Sunday. Then Allah brought us and guided us to Friday. So He made Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and thus they will follow us on the Day of Resurrection. We are the last of the people of this world, but the first on the Day of Resurrection, the ones judged before all creation." And in the narration of Wasil: "the judgment will be between them."

We were guided aright to Friday (as a day of prayer and meditation), but Allah diverted those who were before us from it. The rest of the hadith is the same.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
1369. Commentary: "Kept away" — Allah, the Exalted, did not forcibly keep them away; rather, He did not grant them the ability (tawfiq) to make this decision... And granting tawfiq is Allah’s grace; it is not obligatory upon Him... This has been expressed as "keeping away," otherwise, they themselves, by their own choice, made a decision against Friday and in favor of Saturday or Sunday. It is Allah’s mercy upon us that He granted us the ability (tawfiq) to make the correct decision. And all praise is due to Allah for that.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Among the seven days of the week, Friday is the most virtuous day.
➋ The Ummah of Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is superior to other communities. One manifestation of its excellence is that on the Day of Resurrection, the reckoning of the Ummah of Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) will take place first. In this way, the righteous of this Ummah will enter Paradise before the righteous of other communities.
➌ The virtue of this day demands that it be given due importance. In particular, one should prepare thoroughly and attend the mosque on time for the Friday prayer (Salat al-Jumu‘ah).
➍ Some manifestations of the virtue of this day will be mentioned in the next chapter.
