Ubayy bin Ka'b said: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: O Abu' al-Mundhir, do you know the verse from the Book of Allah which, according to you, is the greatest? I said: Allah and His Apostle (ﷺ) know best. He again said: Abu'l-Mundhir, do you know the verse from the Book of Allah which, according to you, is the greatest? I said: Allah, there is no god but He, the Living, the Eternal. Thereupon he struck me on my breast and said: May knowledge be pleasant for you, O Abu'l-Mundhir!

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: The verses of the Noble Qur’an, in terms of being the speech of Allah, possess the same status and rank. However, in terms of their subjects and content, there is a difference in their reward and merit. For example, on one hand is Surah Lahab, in which the evil end and wickedness of Abu Lahab is mentioned, and on the other hand is Surah Ikhlas, in which the attributes of Allah’s oneness are mentioned. There is a world of difference between the subjects of these two surahs; therefore, how can their reward and merit be the same? In this way, among all the verses of the Noble Qur’an, Ayat al-Kursi contains the most (seventeen times) mention of the essence and attributes of Allah, and this verse is the chief of all the verses of the Qur’an.

1460. English Commentary:
➊ This hadith indicates the virtue of Ayat al-Kursi.
➋ Ayat al-Kursi, in addition to being longer than other ordinary verses, is also very great in terms of meaning, virtue, and reward, because it comprises the attributes of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.
➌ Knowledge is a special gift from Allah, the Exalted, which He bestows upon whomever He wills, and especially the knowledge of the Qur’an and Sunnah.
➍ The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi after every obligatory prayer, nothing prevents him from entering Paradise except death. [السنن الکبریٰ للنسائي، عمل الیوم واللیة، حدیث: 9928]
➎ This hadith also indicates the veneration of the Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
➏ From this, the superiority of some parts of the Noble Qur’an over others is established.
➐ Due to religious benefit, it is permissible to praise someone in their presence, provided there is no fear of them falling into self-admiration or arrogance. And Allah knows best.
