Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported: I accompanied the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in a journey and we reached a watering place. He said: Jabir, are you going to enter it? I said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) then got down and I entered it. He (the Holy Prophet) then went away to relieve himself and I placed for him water for ablution. He then came back and performed ablution, and then stood and prayed in one garment, having its ends tied from the opposite sides. I stood. behind him and he caught hold of my ear and made me stand on his right side.

Hadith Commentary:
Vocabulary of the Hadith:
MASHRA‘AH:
A water trough (watering place).
ALA TASHRA‘U:
Will you not take the camels to the watering place to drink?

Benefits and Issues:
If there is only one follower (muqtadi), he should stand to the right of the imam. If he stands in the wrong place, the imam should take hold of him and make him stand to his right, and this action will not affect the prayer of either the imam or the follower.
