حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ ، عَنْ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أَمْسَى قَالَ : " أَمْسَيْنَا وَأَمْسَى الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِ هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ وَخَيْرِ مَا فِيهَا ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا وَشَرِّ مَا فِيهَا ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْكَسَلِ وَالْهَرَمِ وَسُوءِ الْكِبَرِ وَفِتْنَةِ الدُّنْيَا وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ " ، قَالَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ : وَزَادَنِي فِيهِ زُبَيْدٌ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَفَعَهُ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ " .
'Abdullah reported that when it was evening Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to supplicate: "We have entered upon evening and so has the Kingdom of Allah entered upon evening; praise is due to Allah, there is no god but Allah the One, and there is no partner with Him. O Allah, I beg of Thee the blessing of this night and the blessing of that which lies in it. I seek refuge in Thee from the evil of it and what lies in it. O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from sloth, from decrepitude, from the evil of vanity, from trial of the world, and from torment of the grave." Zubaid, through another chain of transmitters, has narrated on the authority of 'Abdullah directly this addition: "There is no god but Allah, the One, there is no partner with Him, His is the Sovereignty and to Him is praise due and He is Potent over everything."

Benefits and Issues:
In this supplication, there is an affirmation and acknowledgment of Allah’s sovereignty and ownership over oneself and the entire universe, and along with His praise and gratitude, there is a declaration of His oneness and uniqueness. Then, there is a request for all the goodness and blessings that exist in the night or the day, and refuge is sought from all the evils and corruption that exist in the night or the day. Refuge is also sought from those weaknesses that become a cause of deprivation from goodness and happiness. And finally, refuge is sought from every trial in this world and from the punishment of the grave. In this way, there is a complete expression of one’s servitude and humility before Allah.

Explanation:
1:
We have entered the evening, and all sovereignty has entered the evening by Allah’s command.
All praise is due to Allah.
There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, without any partner.
To Him belongs the dominion, to Him belongs all praise, and He is over all things competent.
I seek the good of this night,
and I seek the good that comes after it,
and I seek refuge from the evil of this night and the evil that comes after it.
And I seek refuge from laziness and sluggishness,
and I seek refuge from the affliction of old age,
and I seek refuge from the punishment of the Fire, and I seek refuge from the punishment of the grave.

The arranged wording of the supplication is as follows: «لا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ، وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، رَبِّ أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ مَا فِي هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ، وَخَيْرَ مَا بَعْدَهَا، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا فِي هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ، وَشَرِّ مَا بَعْدَهَا، رَبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْكَسَلِ، وَمِنْ سُوءِ الْكِبَرِ، أَوِ الْكُفْرِ، رَبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ فِي النَّارِ، وَعَذَابٍ فِي الْقَبْرِ» and in the morning, two phrases will be changed as such:
(Asbahna wa asbaha al-mulku lillah) and further on (Rabb as’aluka khayra ma fi hadha al-yawm wa khayra ma ba’dahu wa a’udhu bika min sharri ma fi hadha al-yawm wa sharri ma ba’dahu)


If "al-kibr" is read with certainty (jazm), then it means arrogance.
And if the "ba" is read with a fatha (zabar),
then it means old age.


Translation:
We have entered the evening and Allah’s dominion has entered the evening.
There is no deity except Allah.
He is alone, He has no partner, the dominion belongs to Him, all praise is for Him, and He has full power over everything.
O my Lord, I ask You for the good that is in this night,
and also for the good that comes after it.
And I seek refuge in You from the evil that is in this night and from the evil that comes after it.
O my Lord! I seek refuge in You from laziness, arrogance (or old age), or the evil of disbelief.
O my Lord! I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hell and the punishment of the grave.
