Hadith 634

'Umarah bin Ruwaiba is reported to have said on the authority of his father: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: He who observed prayer before the rising of the son and its setting, i. e. the dawn prayer and the afternoon prayer, would not cater the (Hell) fire. A person belonging to Basrah said to him: Did you yourself hear it from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ? He said: Yes. The person (from Basrah) said: I bear witness that I heard it from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ; my ears heard it and my heart retained it.

Umara bin Ruwaiba reported on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: He who said prayer before the rising of the sun and its setting would not enter the fire (of Hell), and there was a man from Basrahh (sitting) beside him who said: Did you hear it from the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) ? He said: Yes, I bear witness to it. The man from Basrahh said: I bear witness that I did hear from the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) saying it from the place that you heard from him.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
472. Commentary: The prayers of Asr and Fajr fall at difficult times. The time for Asr is a period of business and occupation, while the time for Fajr is one of sleep and heedlessness. Therefore, the person who performs these two prayers regularly in congregation will, all the more so, be regular in performing the remaining prayers. And prayer is the foundation of the religion; thus, such a person will be a steadfast believer, and therefore will never enter the Fire. And Allah knows best.

488. Commentary: In this hadith, there is no mention of congregational prayer (salat al-jama‘ah); only the prayers of Fajr and ‘Asr are mentioned. Thus, what is meant by performing the prayer is, in fact, performing the prayer in congregation. Praying individually or performing the prayer outside its prescribed time is not praiseworthy. 427. Commentary:
This hadith highlights the special importance of the Fajr and Asr prayers. And it can be said that whoever is consistent in performing these prayers will also be consistent in performing the remaining prayers, or he will be granted the ability (tawfiq) to do so.

Benefit:
In these ahadith, the virtue and greatness of the Fajr and Asr prayers are mentioned, that during these prayers the angels of the day and night are present. Furthermore, these times are extremely blessed, such that whoever values these times and gives special attention to these prayers becomes purified from sins and is made an inheritor of Paradise.

Hafiz Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani rahimahullah states that “the Fajr and Asr prayers” are of the highest greatness because during these prayers both groups of angels are present, whereas in the other prayers only one group of angels is present. And it is also mentioned in the ahadith that after the Fajr prayer, sustenance is distributed, and at the end of the day, deeds are raised up. Thus, whoever is engaged in obedience and worship at these times, blessing is placed in his sustenance and deeds. (Fath al-Bari: 2/50)
