Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: The interpretation of a head being cut off can vary depending on the circumstances of the dreamer. Imam Mazari says that this could also be a confused (disturbed) dream, whose purpose is to afflict a person with grief and sorrow, and its aim could also be deprivation from blessings and prosperity. Another interpretation could be that his leader or master will pass away, his authority will come to an end, and all his circumstances will change. However, if the dreamer is a slave, the interpretation could be that he will be freed. If a sick person sees this, he will recover. If a debtor sees this, his debt will be paid off. If someone who has not performed Hajj sees this, he will perform Hajj. If a distressed person sees this, he will find happiness. If a fearful person sees this, he will attain safety. Ibn Qutaybah has written in his book "Usul al-'Ibarah" that a man said, "O Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)! I saw in a dream that my head was cut off and I was looking at it with one of my eyes." So the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) laughed and said, "With which eye were you looking?" Some time later, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) passed away, and people interpreted the dream as follows: the head was you, and looking towards it means following your Sunnah.
