Umm Salamah, the wife of Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) , reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to a small girl in the house of Umm Salamah that he had been seeing on her face black stains and told her that that was due to the influence of an evil eye, and he asked that she should be cured with the help of incantation (hoping) that her face should become spotless.

Hadith Commentary:
This narration has been connected by Zuhli in "Zuhriyyat."
It is understood from this that the affliction of the evil eye is real, as has been mentioned in another hadith.
Maulana Waheed al-Zaman writes that for someone afflicted by the evil eye, one should recite the verse:
﴿Wa in yakādu alladhīna kafarū la-yuzliqūnaka bi-abṣārihim lammā samiʿū al-dhikr wa yaqūlūna innahu la-majnūn﴾ (: al-Qalam: 51)
and then blow (upon the afflicted). This practice is tried and tested.
Performing incantations (ruqya) that involve shirk is absolutely forbidden, rather it is shirk itself. May Allah protect us from them, ameen.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
From this hadith, it is understood that performing ruqyah (spiritual healing by recitation) for the evil eye is permissible, as Asma bint Umais radi Allahu anha submitted:
O Messenger of Allah! The children of Ja'far radi Allahu anhu are very quickly affected by the evil eye. Do we have permission to perform ruqyah for this? He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) replied:
"Yes, you may perform ruqyah for them."
(Jami' al-Tirmidhi, Book of Medicine, Hadith: 2059)
In another narration, it is mentioned that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself said:
"Why are the children of Ja'far weak?"
They replied:
"They are affected by the evil eye."
He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
"Perform ruqyah for them."
I presented a ruqyah to you (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and you said:
"Yes! Use this for ruqyah."
(Sahih Muslim, Book of Peace, Hadith: 5726 (2198))
