باب جَوَازِ جَعْلِ الإِذْنِ رَفْعَ حِجَابٍ أَوْ نَحْوَهُ مِنَ الْعَلاَمَاتِ:Chapter: It Is Permissible To Give Permission To Enter By Raising The Curtain Or Giving Some Other Sign
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ الْجَحْدَرِيُّ ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ كلاهما ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِقُتَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سُوَيْدٍ ، قال : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ يَزِيدَ ، قال : سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ ، يقول : قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذْنُكَ عَلَيَّ أَنْ يُرْفَعَ الْحِجَابُ وَأَنْ تَسْتَمِعَ سِوَادِي حَتَّى أَنْهَاكَ " .
Ibn Mas'ud reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to me: The sign that you have been permitted to come in is that the curtain is raised or that you hear me speaking quietly until I forbid you.

Benefits and Issues:
It is established from this hadith that
a sign or indication may be set for granting someone permission.
As such a sign, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said this to Ibn Mas‘ud (radi Allahu anhu):
If, upon your arrival, the curtain is lifted and you are certain of my presence in the house, then you may enter freely without hindrance.

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (radi Allahu anhu) would frequently be present in the service of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
Due to the necessity of attending to various tasks, he often had to be present, and thus, leniency was granted to him regarding the rule of seeking permission (isti’dhan).
In the Noble Qur’an, slaves and slave-girls have also been exempted from repeatedly seeking permission at any time except for three specific times. (: Surah An-Nur: 58)
