Hadith Commentary:
(1)
In one narration, it is mentioned that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said to Ali (radi Allahu anhu):
"I did not give you this silk garment so that you would wear it yourself, rather my intention was that you distribute it among your esteemed women."
(Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Libas wa al-Zinah, Hadith: 5420 (2071))
In another narration, it is mentioned that Ali (radi Allahu anhu) distributed it among the Fawatim.
(Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Libas wa al-Zinah, Hadith: 5422 (2071))
By "Fawatim" is meant: Fatimah (radi Allahu anha), who is the beloved daughter of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam); the second is Fatimah bint Asad, who is the mother of Ali (radi Allahu anhu); and the third is Fatimah, who is the wife of our master Hamzah ibn Abd al-Muttalib (radi Allahu anhu).
In some narrations, a fourth Fatimah is also mentioned, who is the wife of Aqil ibn Abd al-Muttalib.
(Fath al-Bari: 10/367)
(2)
From this hadith, it is understood that the use of silk is permissible for women, because they are allowed to beautify themselves for their husbands.
And Allah knows best.

Hadith Commentary:
In the narration of Abu Salih, it is stated as follows: "He distributed among the Fatimahs," meaning Fatimah Zahra radi Allahu anha, and Fatimah bint Asad, who was the mother of Ali radi Allahu anhu, and Fatimah bint Hamzah ibn Abd al-Muttalib, and Fatimah bint Shaybah or bint Utbah ibn Rabi‘ah, who was the wife of Aqil ibn Abi Talib.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
In one narration it is stated:
Ali (radi Allahu anhu) distributed it among the women named Fatimah in his family.
(Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Libas wa’l-Zinah, Hadith: 5422(2071))
By this, it could mean Fatimah al-Zahra (radi Allahu anha), his mother Fatimah bint Asad, Fatimah bint Hamzah, and Fatimah bint Shaybah.
(Fath al-Bari: 10/367)
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) wished to teach his family members simplicity, cleanliness, and frugality; therefore, he expressed his disapproval.
(2)
If this had been personally forbidden, why would he have given it as a gift?
Since Ali (radi Allahu anhu) was aware of his (the Prophet’s) subtle indications, he tore it and distributed it among the women of the family so that they could use it for themselves.

Urdu footnote:
"In some narrations, the word 'Fawatim' is used instead of 'the women of the households', meaning that it was distributed among the women named Fatimah. The intended individuals are his respected mother, Fatimah bint Asad radi Allahu anha, who is also called Fatimah al-Kubra; his wife, Fatimah bint Rasul Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam; his paternal cousin, Fatimah bint Hamzah radi Allahu anha; and the wife of his brother Aqil radi Allahu anhu, Fatimah bint Shaibah."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ If a garment is not made of pure silk, but is half cotton and half silk, it is still prohibited for men to wear it.

➋ The term "Fatimas" refers to the women of the household of Ali, among whom one was named Fatima, i.e., the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) who was the wife of Ali (radi Allahu anhu); the second was Ali's mother, Fatima bint Asad; and the third was Fatima (radi Allahu anha), the daughter of Hamza.

➌ Giving and accepting gifts is a Sunnah.

Takhrij:
«أخرجه البخاري، اللباس، باب الحرير للنساء، حديث:5840، ومسلم، اللباس، باب تحريم استعمال إناء الذهب والفضة علي الرجال والنساء، حديث:2071.»©Explanation:
➊ The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam received this cloak as a gift. He gave it to Ali radi Allahu anhu, who wore it, but the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam expressed anger and displeasure at this. In Sahih Muslim, it is mentioned that he said: "I did not give it to you to wear, but rather so that the women of your household may wear it." (Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Libas wa al-Zinah, Hadith: 2071) Accordingly, Ali radi Allahu anhu tore it into pieces and distributed it among the women.
➋ This hadith proves that accepting gifts and presents is Sunnah, even if their use is not permissible for men.
