It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: One who died but did not fight in the way of Allah nor did he express any desire (or determination) for Jihad, died the death of a hypocrite. 'Abdullah bin Mubarak said: We think the hadith pertained to the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) . rted on the authority of Sahl bin Aba Umama bin Sahl bin Hunaif who learned the tradition from his father who (in turn) learned it from his grandfather-that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Who sought martyrdom with sincerity will be ranked by Allah among the martyrs even if he died on his bed. In his version of the tradition Abd Tahir did not mention the words:" with sincerity".

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: There are two forms of hypocrisy:
hypocrisy in belief (nifaq i'tiqadi) and hypocrisy in action (nifaq 'amali).
A person who does not participate in jihad (struggle in the path of Allah) and never even feels the desire for it in his heart,
adopts the attitude of the hypocrites.
Those who stayed behind using excuses and pretexts—this is not something limited only to the era of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam);
this matter exists in every era.
Hypocrisy in belief was specific to your (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) time,
but hypocrisy in action has existed in every era and still exists today—
in fact, it is present in abundance.
Therefore, every Muslim should have a true longing and yearning in his heart for genuine jihad, and jihad is the name for raising high the word of Allah (kalimatullah),
not merely a matter of zeal and fervor.

From this, the importance of jihad becomes clear. Furthermore, it is understood from this that every Muslim should harbor enmity in his heart against disbelief and disbelievers, and should possess this resolve that whenever the stage of jihad arises, he will not refrain from sacrificing his life and wealth.

Benefits and Issues:
A sincere Muslim desires the dominance of Islam and the Muslims in every circumstance,
and strives for it.
He is eager for jihad and is a supporter and helper of the act of jihad.
If someone does not possess any such quality, then he is a Muslim in name only.
And being deprived of such sentiments is a part of hypocrisy and a great misfortune.
