Hadith 491

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ مُضَرَ ، عَنْ ابْنِ الْهَادِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : إِذَا سَجَدَ الْعَبْدُ ، سَجَدَ مَعَهُ سَبْعَةُ ، أَطْرَافٍ وَجْهُهُ ، وَكَفَّاهُ ، وَرُكْبَتَاهُ ، وَقَدَمَاهُ " .
Ibn Abbas (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: I was commanded to prostrate myself on the seven (bones) and forbidden to fold back hair and clothing. (The seven bones are): forehead, nose, hands, knees and feet.00000

Benefit:
Prostration (sujud) is the most excellent way for a servant to express humility before Allah. At this moment, seven parts of the body touch the ground, as if all these limbs are practically expressing servitude.
The combination of the heart’s humility and the limbs touching the ground constitutes the true prostration.
A servant should strive to make his prostration as complete as possible so that he may attain the greatest possible pleasure of Allah.
