Hadith Commentary:
1.
The principle of teaching is that attention should be paid to enthusiasm and interest in education; excessive strictness is not appropriate, as it may tire the students’ minds and eventually they may begin to feel disinterest and lack of motivation within themselves. This aspect has been highlighted in the above hadith. Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah says that, initially, the act of frightening and intimidating causes aversion; therefore, aversion is mentioned in contrast to glad tidings, even though warning is actually the opposite of glad tidings. Thus, a preacher and teacher should deal with people gently and with ease; frightening and intimidating will create aversion, and as a result, people will become anxious and be compelled to abandon (the gathering). (Fath al-Bari: 1/215)

2.
Preachers should adopt such an attractive and captivating style while preaching that it creates desire and love in the hearts of people. One should not suffice only with the warnings mentioned in the Qur’an and Hadith, but rather, glad tidings (basharah) and warnings (inzar) should be presented together, following the style of the Noble Qur’an. If only glad tidings are always given, people will rely on mercy and become fearless, and if only warnings are emphasized, people will become despondent of mercy. Both of these are very dangerous for a seeker of truth. In the aforementioned hadith, a middle path for teaching and preaching has been indicated.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The foundation of the religion of Islam is based on ease, as is evident from the following verses:
• “Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship.” (Al-Baqarah 2:185)
• “Allah intends to lighten (the burden) for you, for man was created weak.” (An-Nisa 4:28)
• “He has not placed upon you in the religion any hardship.” (Al-Hajj 22:78)
This means that when a person accepts Islam, in the beginning, he should be treated with gentleness and not with such severity that he becomes averse and runs away from it.

(2)
If, in the beginning, a person is met with ease, he will willingly accept later difficulties; but if he is met with severity at the outset, the result will be the opposite.
